What is counselling?

Counselling can be for everyone

Counselling is a safe and confidential space for you to talk openly about whatever is concerning you. Together, we can explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours so you can work towards a better understanding of yourself and others.

Welcoming space

I offer a warm, welcoming space in which I’ll support you with empathy and insight, and without judgement. I will work collaboratively with you to help you find your own way forward, which might be making effective changes in your life or finding new ways of coping with your problems.

Building a positive relationship

The counselling relationship is key to the success of therapy, so it’s important that you feel comfortable with me. I will work with you to build a genuine, accepting and positive relationship in which you can feel safe enough to explore whatever is troubling you, no matter how difficult, challenging or complicated it may seem.

Exploration

I am trained to work with people experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, stress and sexual difficulties, amongst other emotional and psychological issues. But I don’t think you need a mental health diagnosis to benefit from counselling. It’s also a space to explore a wide range of questions and concerns, ranging from issues with your personal or family relationships to questions about the direction of your career. It can be a place to share and discuss feelings of lack of focus or satisfaction in your life, confusion about what it all means, or worries about your past or future.

 

Counselling isn’t a quick fix. But it is a powerful process which can help you make lasting change in your life.
